CONTAINERS HOLD RECORD AT LEIXÕES
2014-11-20

Two months before the end of the year, the cargo handling in the Port of Leixões is still above the registered in the same period of 2013, when it reached a new historic record.
Between January and October, Leixões handled 14.8 million tonnes, 1% more than in the first ten months of 2013.
The containerised cargo remains as the support of the positive performance of Leixões, with an annual growth of 7% and a cumulative total of 5.5 million tonnes.
With the handling of liquid bulk in low (loses 9% to 6.3 million tonnes), containerised cargo is confirmed as the main driver of the port activity at Leixões.
In high, in the assessment of the first ten months of the Port of Leixões, are also the dry bulk (up 4% to 1.8 million tonnes) and the fractional general cargo (plus 5% to 833,000 tonnes).
Determinant for the positive results achieved at the end of October is also the handling of ro-ro cargo (also provided by TCL): from 33,000 tonnes, a year ago, to 321,000 tonnes, at present.
It could be said that TCL is not only the largest national container terminal operator (minus the transhipment movements) as is also the largest ro-ro cargo operator in the country!
