2014-08-27

The movement of goods in the port of Leixões grew 4% between January and July 2014, driven by containerized cargo, which increased 8%.
In the first seven months of the year, Leixões handled 10.5 million tonnes, a record that compares with the mark of 10.1 million achieved in the corresponding period of 2013.
The containerized cargo led the activity’s growth and increased 8% to a new high of 3.8 million tonnes.
The record was also helped by ro-ro, which totalled about 202 thousand tonnes (against about 24 thousand tonnes a year ago). A jump of 748%!
Fractional general cargo exceeded 585 thousand tonnes (3% YoY).
Instead, the liquid bulk fell 1% in the first seven months of the year, to 4.6 million tonnes, while the bulk solids lost 4% to 1.3 million tonnes.
