TCL WITH A 659,000 TEU RECORD
2015-01-05

In 2014, TCL set a new all-time record in container handling at Leixões with a mark of 659,050 TEU!
This despite, in December, the TCL have handled "only" 49,150 TEU, a result of the higher monthly activity year-on-year decrease (-13.3%) occurred throughout the year.
When compared to 2013, the now consolidated result represents an annual growth of 6.1%.
The 2014 mark exceeds by 4.7% the previous all-time record of the concession, verified in 2012, when were handled 629,492 TEU. But 2012 was exceptional due to the port workers strike impact that made converge toward Leixões and TCL many ships and cargo.
The 2014 result, instead, was achieved in a socio-labour context of absolute normality in all national ports.
With the new maximum, the TCL resumed the trend of consecutive annual absolute records began in 2000 (when the concession initiated) and interrupted only in 2013 (by virtue of the comparison with a 2012 absolutely outstanding).
The result now reached reinforces the TCL's status as the largest national operator of container terminals (in the import-export) and reinforces the need to expand the installed capacity, the only way to maintain growth and, as much or more, the quality of service recognized by all.
