The handling of containers in the Mainland ports exceeded 1.5 million TEU in the first seven months of the year, having yielded 1.7% when compared with the record of the same period of 2015, according to the Mobility and Transport Authority (AMT).

TCL has strengthened its position in the market, with a growth of 8.1% up to 395,823 TEU. Sines counted about 817,000 TEU, Lisbon was close to 191,000, Setúbal surged to 98,000 and Figueira da Foz almost reached the 14,000.

The AMT stresses that transhipment movements weigh 78% in total of Sines, compared to only 7% in Leixões. Which means that, in the import-export, Leixões and TCL lead with substantial distance the container handling in Portugal, with more than the double of movements of the second place in the ranking.
