TCL OVERCAME AGAIN THE 600,000 TEU HANDLED 2016-01-04 For the third consecutive year, in 2015, the Leixões Container Terminal has exceeded the barrier of 600,000 TEU handled. Compared to 2014, a record year, in the year now ended, the result of TCL means a decline of 6.6%. Should be emphasized, however, that this drop is much smaller than the decrease in exports to Angola - a key market for container traffic in Leixões - which means that TCL was able to compensate a substantial part of the loss by attracting and retaining new traffic. The numbers are not yet final, but will have been more than 615,000 TEU, representing more than 385,000 containers handled. With this result, the Port of Leixões remains as the fifth largest Iberian port in container traffic. Since the ports that precede it in the transhipment movements ranking are of fundamental importance. In Leixões, as all know, the handled containers are almost exclusively from import-export and from trade with the autonomous regions of the Azores and Madeira. On the other hand, remaining well above the annually 600,000 TEU, TCL continues to operate very close to the Leixões Container Terminal’s capacity limit, without this being reflected in the quality of service. Something only possible with high productivity rates, as result of the implemented management measures and investments made in improving TCL’s performance. |
