TCL CLOSE TO OVERCOME THE 600,000 TEU IN THE YEAR 2015-12-04 When only one month is missing to the end of the year 2015, everything comes together so that once again, TCL exceeds the threshold of 600 000 TEU handled. In late November, the Leixões Container Terminal totalled 566,219 TEU, so only a "catastrophe" which is not expected, prevent TCL to exceed 600,000 TEU. It is true that, compared to the first 11 months of 2014 the total now reached is a decrease of 7.2%. But it is important to contextualize the numbers and emphasize that the cumulative decrease is much less than the decline recorded this year in exports to Angola, the main destination of containerised cargo handled at Leixões. Also important to note that, if confirmed the 600,000 TEU handled, TCL will be confirmed in 2015 as the largest Portuguese container terminal in import-export, thus without the input from the transhipment traffic. In November, TCL handled 49,821 TEU (30,875 containers), which resulted in a year-on-year fall of 16.7%. |
