SHIP OF THE WEEK OPERATED OVERNIGHT 2015-11-18 What to others is just still a goal, or even a desire, at the Leixões Container Terminal has long been a reality: whenever customer wants, TCL works continuously, day and night. This happened with the Ship of the Week no. 46, "Safmarine Nile". The ship came to Leixões on the 10th and began to be operated at TCL at 16:01. The cargo handling operations continued all night long, without interruption, so that the next day, at 9:55, "Safmarine Nile" was ready to continue its journey. In the meantime, they were unloaded and/or loaded 1,445 TEU. Overall, the net productivity of operations stood at 58 movements per effective hour of operations. With the 24-hour work, TCL meets the shipowners’ needs, reducing to a minimum the time of permanence/detention in port. But not only. When working around the clock, TCL can dilute the operations by the 24 hours of the day, thereby reducing the bottlenecks that result from greater concentration of movements in a shorter time and thus relieving the pressure resulting from the fact that the Leixões Container Terminal has been working for quite so long above 90% of its capacity. |
