PORTS TOTALED 1.3 MILLION TEU UNTIL THE END OF JUNE 2015-07-29 Between January and June, the ports of the Continent handled 1.3 million TEU, according to the IMT (Portuguese Mobility and Transports Institute) sectoral report. Compared to the same period in 2014, there was an increase of 6.8%, with a new six-month record. In Leixões, the handling of containers regressed 6.2%, much at the expense of the drop in exports to Angola. Still, the TCL handled 307,766 TEU, 23.7% of the national total, exclusively import and export movements. Global activity numbers continue to be strongly influenced by transhipment movements in the port of Sines. In total, the port handled 676,939 TEU, 13.5% more than a year ago. Growing 7.5%, the port of Lisbon stood at 247,493 TEU. Yet Setúbal advanced 10.4% to 58,405 TEU. |
