PORTS HANDLED 53.2 MILLION TONNES

In the first seven months of the year, the handling of goods in the Mainland ports reached 53.2 million tonnes, announced the Mobility and Transport Authority (AMT).

This figure represents an annual growth of 0.8% to a new high for the period considered.

The general cargo reached 22.7 million tonnes (more 2.5%), and containerised cargo moved forward 7.6% and reached 18.2 million tonnes.

Liquid bulks totalled 19.7 million tonnes (more 2.7%) and solid bulks 10.9 million tonnes (less 5.6%).

By the end of July, the port of Leixões handled 10.4 million tonnes (less 2.9% year-on-year). Sines reached 28.6 million tonnes (more 9.6%). Lisbon counted 5.5 million tonnes (less 18.5%). Setúbal reached 4.5 million tonnes (less 2.4%).

Among the smaller ports, Aveiro completed 2.5 million tonnes (less 9.6%), Figueira da Foz 1.2 million (less 3.3%), Viana do Castelo 232,000 tonnes (less 10.6%) and Faro 152,000 (less 36.2%).
