PORTS GROW 9.5% IN FIRST QUARTER 2015-04-29 The movement of goods in national ports grew 9.5% in the first quarter, to 20.9 million tonnes. A record. The liquid bulk have grown faster: 18.5% to 7.8 million tonnes. Followed by the dry bulk, rising 14.2% to 4.9 million tonnes. Despite the decrease of 0.1%, general cargo maintained the lead with 8.3 million tonnes. The containerised cargo rose 1.1%. Between January and March, the port of Leixões increased by 5.2% to 4.5 million tonnes, having registered in March, the best month ever, 1.7 million tonnes. Sines advanced 21.6% to 9.99 million tonnes (mainly on account of its exposure to energy products), Lisbon lost 4.9% to 2.8 million tonnes and Setúbal decreased 5.8% to 1.9 million tonnes. Aveiro increased 0.5% to 1.1 million tonnes, Figueira da Foz grew 17.5% to 524,000 tonnes and Viana do Castelo fell 9.8% to 103,000 tonnes. |
