PORTS GROW 3.7% IN THE FIRST TWO MONTHS 2015-04-08 The movement of goods in the major mainland ports increased 3.7% by the end of February for a 13.3 million tonnes record, according to the data released by IMT. General cargo accounted for 39.9% of total traffic, with 5.3 million tonnes and a year-on-year growth of 1.1%. In particular, containerised cargo reached 4.1 million tonnes, more 1.5% than a year ago. The global movement of containers, measured in TEU, stood at 381,698, growing by 4.5%. The handling of liquid bulk went further 8% to 4.98 million tonnes. And the dry bulk reached three million tonnes (1.5%). In the first two months of 2015 the Port of Leixões grew 5.7%, having handled 2.7 million tonnes. Sines went further 7.2% up to 6.6 million, while Lisbon fell 7.6% to 1.7 million tonnes. |
