PORT OF LEIXÕES WITH RECORD OF 13.7 MILLION TONNES
2015-10-28

By the end of September, the Port of Leixões handled 13.7 million tonnes, a new high for the first three quarters and a gain of 4.1% over the same period of 2014.
The ro-ro cargo deserves a special mention. It grew by 85% and surpassed the half-million tonnes, ensuring the national leadership of Leixões in this market segment.
In the same period, the handling of bulk solids has advanced 14.8% to around 300,000 tonnes. Fractional general cargo grew by 11.9% to close to 100,000 tonnes. And the liquid bulk rose 7.1% and reached to 6.1 million tonnes.
The containerised cargo accounted for 4.5 million tonnes (8.7% less year-on-year), with the movement of containers to decrease 6.2% to 459,767 TEU. The main explanation, it is known, is the strong retreat in exports to Angola.
