The handling of goods in the Port of Leixões increased by 0.8% in the first four months of the year and reached a record value in the period, according to Mobility and Transport Authority (AMT) data.

Between January and April, Leixões processed 6.2 million tonnes.

The behaviour of the Port of Leixões contrasted with that of most ports. According to the AMT, in the four-month period, the handling of goods in the national ports declined 9.8%, with a total of 29.8 million tonnes.

In April, for example, while the national total declined 6.8% year-on-year, Leixões increased 15.2%.

As a result, the Port of Leixões has strengthened its global market share, a fact which is even more evident in export-import trades.
