PORT OF LEIXÕES INAUGURATED LOGISTICS PLATFORM

The Port of Leixões officially inaugurated its logistics platform and thus concluded the operations envisaged in the Strategic Plan approved in 2004 and lasting until 2015.
In addition to the platform it was also inaugurated the new operations centre of Luis Simões, located in the pole 2 of Gatões-Guifões, and the foundation stone of the future facilities of Espaçotrans, to build in the same pole, has been laid.
The Port Authority’s President of the Board of Directors, Brògueira Dias, meanwhile announced that about 50% of the space available on the pole 1, of Gonçalves, of the logistics platform is already committed to several operators.
The Leixões Logistics Platform covers an area of about 70 hectares, divided into two cores, connected together, to the Port of Leixões and to the national road network by VILPL. The complex will comprise in time a goods combined road-rail terminal, under the responsibility of Infraestruturas de Portugal (Portuguese road and rail infrastructures management) which is at a late stage of study.
The infra-structure of the logistics platform pole 2 and the carrying out of studies for the road-rail terminal were the subject of an application by the Port Authority to CEF - Connecting Europe Facility and will be co-financed by the European Union.
Apart from the combined road-rail terminal, the Leixões Logistics Platform represents a total investment of 165 million euros.
