OVER 600,000 TEU IN FIRST QUARTER 2016-05-04 The movement of containers in national ports increased by 4.1% in the first quarter and reached 606,881 TEU. In Leixões, TCL handled 158,241 TEU, 3.8% more than in the same period of 2015 and thus consolidated its leading position highlighted in the containers import-export traffic, serving the hinterland. In the same period, Sines handled about 309,000 TEU but, as evidenced by the Mobility and Transport Authority (AMT) in its report, about 247,000 of these corresponded to transhipment traffic. In percentage terms, Setúbal was the port that grew the most in this segment: 35% up to 36,000 TEU. Lisbon fell 18% to about 98,000 TEU and Figueira da Foz contracted 7.8% to 4,300 TEU. |
