NATIONAL PORTS WITH RUN OF RECORDS 2016-01-13 In the first 11 months of 2015, the Mainland major ports handled 81.6 million tonnes, which is a new record, according to the Transport and Mobility Authority (AMT) report. Leixões contributed to the good result with an annual growth of 5.4% to a record of 17.3 million tonnes. Records were also the results obtained by the ports of Aveiro and Sines, while the other ports recorded falls in cargo handling ranging between 0.5% and 8.7%. The liquid bulk made the largest contribution to the overall positive results, with an annual growth of 15.3%. This was followed by the solid bulks (over 5.4%) and general cargo (over 4.4%). In general cargo, stood out the ro-ro cargo, with a jump of over 50%, much at the expense of Leixões. The containerised cargo grew 5.4% in volume. The movement of containers increased 2.7% to a record of 2.4 million TEU. The highlights were the ports of Sines, Setúbal and Figueira da Foz. In Leixões, TCL was able to reduce losses to 6.9%. |
