NATIONAL PORTS WITH RECORD IN GOODS 2016-04-06 The Mainland ports handled 13.6 million tonnes in the first two months of the year, announced the Mobility and Transport Authority (AMT). The result is a new record for the period and represents an annual growth of 1.4%. Leixões did better than the market average, an increase of 2.7% and reaching 2.8 million tonnes handled. The containerised cargo continues to be one of the growth engines of the national port activity. The movement of containers, measured in TEU, increased by 1%, up to 385,631. Here too Leixões had the best performance among the major ports, with a cumulative growth of 6.7% and a total of 101,389 TEU. With this result, and considering the weight of 79% (AMT figures) of transhipment in total container movement in Sines, TCL has strengthened its position as the largest operator of container terminals in import-export, servicing exporters and importers of an increasingly vast hinterland. |
