NATIONAL PORTS TO ADD 29.4 MILLION TONNES
2016-06-01

Between January and April, the mainland ports handled 29.4 million tonnes, 2.3% more than in the first quarter of 2015.
Global growth was strongly influenced by the movements of crude oil and coal, which also help to explain the leadership of Sines, with 15.6 million tonnes handled.
Leixões handled 5.8 million tonnes, representing a year on year fall of 4.2%.
In other ports, Lisbon handled 3.2 million tonnes, Setúbal 2.5 million, Aveiro 1.4 million, Figueira da Foz 629,000, Viana do Castelo 150,000 and Faro 112,000.
General cargo (with the predominance of containerised cargo) led the movements, with 12.2 million tonnes. Liquid bulk cargo totalled 10.7 million tonnes. And the dry bulk totalled 6.5 million tonnes.
