NATIONAL PORTS GROW 24% IN APRIL

The handling of goods in the major mainland ports increased 23.7%, to 7.7 million tonnes, reported the IMT (Portuguese Mobility and Transports Institute). In the first four months of the year, the processed cargos in the seven considered ports - Viana do Castelo, Leixões, Aveiro, Figueira da Foz, Lisbon, Setúbal and Sines - reached 28.6 million tonnes, representing an annual growth of 13%. In cumulative terms, the general cargo continued to lead, with a total of 11.5 million tonnes, but only grew 1.8%. Better achieved the dry bulk, growing 12.8% to 6.4 million tonnes. Much better did the bulk liquids: grew 28.5% to 10.7 million tonnes. Between January and April, Sines handled 13.9 million tonnes (32.3%). Leixões reached 6.1 million tonnes (4.6% more and a record). Lisbon made 3.8 million tonnes (4.5% less) and Setúbal 2.5 million (9.5% less). Aveiro reached 1.6 million tonnes (4.9% more). Figueira da Foz totalled 698,000 (6.9% more) and Viana do Castelo 141,000 tonnes (21.9% less). |
