"MSC GENEVA" PREMIERES UP THE EXTENSION OF CONTAINER SHIP 2015-07-15 This is a world first but could be a good solution to give a second life to container ships that are being overcome, every day that passes, for larger units. The "MSC Geneva" was the first to undergo an enlargement operation, thereby increasing its transport capacity by 1,280 slots, to 6,152 TEU. The work was performed in a Chinese shipyard and essentially consisted in a longitudinal section of the ship and the insertion of a central section with three rows of containers. With this the "MSC Geneva" became wider (about eight meters, reaching 40 meters wide) and heavier, but kept the length and increased the capacity and the energy efficiency. |
