2017-10-18

In the first eight months of the year, the Port of Leixões processed 12.9 million tonnes, a record and a gain of 8.4% over the same period of last year, according to data released by the Mobility and Transport Authority (AMT).

With this performance, Leixões increased its market share, as the handling of goods in the continent's ports as a whole increased by 7.1%, to a maximum of 65.7 million tonnes.

According to data from the AMT, August was even the best ever of the national ports.

Regarding the handling of containers, Yilport Leixões reached 54,959 TEU in August, representing a year-on-year gain of 4.1%. In the year-to-date, it adds 419,118 TEU, which guarantees a market share of 20.3%.

In fact, considering only import-export moves, Yilport Leixões' market share almost doubled, since transhipment moves (without expression in Leixões) already represent almost half of the 2.1 million TEU handled at the mainland ports until August.
