LEIXÕES LEADS GROWTH OF NATIONAL PORTS 2016-03-02 Leixões was, among the largest mainland ports, the one that increased the movement of goods in January, year on year. In January, the Mobility and Transport Authority (AMT) announced that the national ports handled 7.3 million tonnes. A new high and an annual increase of 8.2%. Leixões made the best January ever, having grown 13%, and reached 1.4 million tonnes. Sines advanced 7.6% and Lisbon progressed about 10%. Among the smaller ports, Aveiro has advanced 20% year on year, while Setúbal decreased 0.7%, Figueira da Foz lost 15.1% and Faro fell 56.4%, added the Mobility and Transport Authority (AMT). In January, the containerised cargo handled at the ports rose 6.9% and ro-ro cargo grew 33.8%, both contributing to the overall positive result. |
