LEIXÕES IS CONFIRMED AS THE MAJOR IMPORT-EXPORT GATEWAY

Demonstrating the dynamics of its hinterland, consisting of an industrial segment with strong performance in Portugal’s international trade, Leixões is confirmed as the major Import-Export gateway.
According to data from the Mobility and Transport Authority (AMT), in 2015, the container traffic in major mainland ports reached 2.58 million TEU. Sines handled 1.33 million; Leixões 624,000; Lisbon 481,000; Setúbal 121,000 and Figueira da Foz 23,000.
Also according to the AMT, the transhipment traffic surpassed one million TEU. In Sines, represented 80% of total movements, against 9% in Leixões and 3% in Lisbon.
Therefore, and discounting the container traffic that has no origin or destination in the ports’ hinterland, in 2015, once again the port of Leixões and TCL led foregrounded the movement of import and export containers, concentrating about 50% of the national total.
