The Port of Leixões and Yilport Leixões grew in the first half of the year, contrary to the global trend of the market, which continues to fall, according to the latest data released by the Mobility and Transportation Authority (AMT).

By the end of June, Leixões handled 9.795 million tonnes, 1.3% more year-on-year and a new record for the first half.

Together, the mainland ports handled 46.4 million tonnes in the same period, which means a decrease of 4.8%.

Thus, the Port of Leixões increased its market share by 1.3 percentage points to 21.1%.

For the good result of Leixões, the positive performance of Yilport Leixões was decisive, both in the handling of containers and in the operation of ro-ro cargoes.

In this last segment, Leixões grew 11.4% to 548,000 tonnes, consolidating its national leadership in the segment.

In the handling of containers, Leixões and Yilport Leixões grew 1.3% year-on-year to 313,660 TEU.

On the other hand, the handling of containers at the national level fell by 6.9% to around 971,000 TEU.
