![]() 2019-02-11 By March 2021, the South Container Terminal will have its capacity increased by 210,000 TEU / year, as a result of an investment of 43.4 million euros by YILPORT Leixões. The reconversion of the Leixões South Container Terminal was officially launched at a ceremony attended by the Minister of the Sea, Ana Paula Vitorino, and the founder and president of the YILDIRIM Group, Robert YILDIRIM. Capacity expansion will essentially be achieved through the expansion of the full container yard/ / handling platform, improvements in the terminal layout, and enhancement and improvement of container handling equipment. The investment of YILPORT Leixões has as counterpart the extension of the concession for five years. The work is absolutely essential for the Port of Leixões and for the market it serves, given that in recent years the Leixões Container Terminal is working within limits or even beyond its theoretical capacity of 650,000 TEU / year (in 2018 counted more than 660,000 TEU). In his speech, Robert YILDIRIM reaffirmed the commitment of his group in the future of the Port of Leixões. |
