CONTAINERISED CARGO LEADS AT LEIXÕES 2016-06-29 The containerised cargo led the activity at the Port of Leixões in the first five months of the year, according to the data from the Port Authority. Between January and May, the Port of Leixões handled 7.3 million tonnes, less 4% than in the same period of 2015. In line with the strong increase in container handling, containerised cargo totalled 2.8 million tonnes (a year-on-year rise of 13%), and thus recovered the dominance between the types of handled cargo. In high were also the ro-ro cargo and break bulk general cargo. In the first case, 332,000 tonnes were reached (over 28%), and in the second were reached 501,000 tonnes (6%). The result of the Port of Leixões in the first five months of the year was not even better because of bulks. Liquid bulk fell 19% up to 2.7 million tonnes and solid bulks yielded 11% up to 1.1 million tonnes. |
